Ms. Beals holds a BA in Trauma, Healing, & Spirituality from Antioch University and began exploring massage therapy in 2002 as a way to heal her own trauma. Upon completing training at Brian Utting School of Massage in Seattle, WA, she began training in craniosacral therapy and somatic healing. This practice includes extensive work with Ursula Popp of Natural Health Resources Center and Systemic Yoga founder, Ateeka. Over the past eight years she’s shared in Circle with a wide array of spiritual and healing communities and trained with the Ojai Foundation to facilitate Council.
After receiving her massage therapy training, she felt inspired to use her skills to support vulnerable and traumatized populations, such as those experiencing homelessness and incarceration. Through her work as a program assistant for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation she focused on reducing poverty and inequity in the United States.
She has since been privileged to work with women in addiction recovery, homeless young adults, and veterans. In 2009 she had the immense honor of traveling to Vietnam with Edward Tick of Soldier’s Heart to support the healing of American veterans and Vietnamese communities who continue to suffer the effects of war. During their travels Rachel offered massage to the traveling group as well as children at Da Nang Street Children’s Center.
Ms. Beals spiritual work lies predominantly in the realm of Insight Meditation and American Theravada Buddhism. Rodney Smith of Seattle Insight Meditation Society is my guiding teacher. She has also practiced in depth under the guidance of Noah Levine of Against the Stream Buddhist Meditation Society and a collective of monastic and lay teachers at Insight Meditation Society and Spirit Rock Meditation Center. In 2008 she co-founded the Seattle Dharma Punx and trained with Noah Levine to facilitate meditation and spiritual community.
Her current focus is on writing, spiritual mentorship, and facilitating healing community.
